Changing and Growing in the Town of Truckee

If there is one thing we can count on, it is change.

I have been in the Truckee/North Lake Tahoe area for over 30 years and have seen Truckee change from a small town with a population of about 4,400 residents to one now with well over 16,000.

Tourism has increased dramatically as well.

Growing my Garden: Knowledge and Veggies

I always wanted to have a garden. The idea of eating produce grown in my own backyard has always appealed to me.

Like most first time garden-growers, I started off blissfully ignorant and clueless about pretty much everything – from how to prep the soil to how much it would cost to whether I would really enjoy pulling weeds.

That was two summers ago.

Vermont to the Sierra: Small Towns Facing Similar Challenges

As a recent transplant to the Tahoe region from Vermont, I can say that both places have a lot more in common than I anticipated.

I grew up in a small town with picturesque covered bridges and vibrant fall foliage. It was frequently flooded with visitors coming either for the weekend or to live their quiet Vermont lives in the hills.
